WHAT IS CBT?

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is evidence-based therapy, helping you to manage your problems and improve your quality of life by changing the way you think (cognitive) and act (behavioural).
  • CBT helps you change unhelpful thinking and behaviour patterns. CBT emphasises that thoughts, feelings and behaviours are interlinked and strongly influence each other. Negative or fearful thinking can lead to negative feelings that drive negative behaviours. A vicious cycle can develop that feeds anxiety, stress, depression, and other mental health problems. 
  • As a cognitive behavioural therapist in Kinsale, Cork, I am passionate about using evidence-based psychological therapy to help adults and under-16s overcome problems. My approach is a practical one – our aim is turning that vicious cycle into a helpful virtuous cycle. 
  • Unlike other therapeutic approaches, the ultimate aim of CBT is for you to learn to become your own therapist, equipped with the psychological skills necessary to meet future challenges and ensure lasting change.
